Raise Your Voice For Clean Vehicles

Public Hearing in Philadelphia: January 19
The Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have proposed joint rules to increase the fuel efficiency of cars and light trucks and to reduce the greenhouse gasses they emit. Across the nation, three hearings have been scheduled to receive public comments. The Philadelphia public hearing is on Thursday, January 19, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM in the Crown Plaza Hotel at 1800 Market Street. Please let the Sierra Club know if you are interested in speaking at the hearing, and we will make the arrangements. In addition to registered speakers, time will be allotted for statements from the audience. If you wish to speak, please bring three written copies of the statement for the panel (for more details on the hearings and how to comment, see the Federal Register Notice [PDF]).

Rules to Reduce Import of Foreign Oil
The rules will require cars, SUV's, minivans, and pickup trucks to reach an average fuel efficiency of 54.5 mpg by Model Year 2025. Those vehicles represent 60% of the transportation emissions in the United States. The new standards will save 4 billion barrels of oil and cut 2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas pollution.
